Calgary @ 50: A City Smitten with Romance

Calgary’s Centre Street Bridge, 1927 (Photo: Calgary Public Library)

In 1925, Calgary’s 50th Jubilee year, residents and others saw this place as a “city of romance.” I’ll be exploring what romance meant a century ago, the way the notion influenced the city’s sense of itself, and how over the decades this perception of Calgary has both changed and lives on in our civic DNA.

Join me on Tuesday, September 16 from 7 to 8:30 at the Central Library Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall.

This talk is in partnership with Chinook Country Historical Society and the Calgary Public Library.

Free to attend but please register with the Library: https://www.calgarylibrary.ca/events-and-programs/programs/calgary-at-50-a-city-smitten-with-romance
