Calgary through the eyes of writers
Eight decades ago, Calgary made it onto William Arthur Deacon’s 1936 literary map of Canada. Zoom in on the city and you will see references to four literary works associated with Calgary and its environs:
- Ralph Connor’s 1899 bestselling western, The Sky Pilot: A Tale of the Foothills
- Arthur Stringer’s 1922 The Prairie Stories, a trilogy set on a ranch southwest of the city
- Frederick Niven’s 1935 The Flying Years, a novel about Western settlement
- Isabel Ecclestone MacKay's 1922 poem “Calgary Station”
